PROLONG TWILIGHT CRUISE. NHRA MUSEUM, POMONA CA. HOT RODS AND CUSTOMS.

Hot rods are typically American cars with large engines modified for linear speed. The origin of the term "hot rod" is unclear. One explanation is that the term is a contraction of "hot roadster," meaning a roadster that was modified for speed. Another possible origin includes modifications to or replacement of the camshaft(s), sometimes known as a "stick" or "rod". A camshaft designed to produce more power is sometimes call a "hot stick" or, here, a "hot rod". Roadsters were the cars of choice because they were light. The term became commonplace in the 1930s or 1940s as the name of a car that had been "hopped up" by modifying the engine in various ways to achieve higher performance.

The term can also apply to other items that are "souped up" for a particular purpose, such as "hot-rodded amplifier".

What ever you want to call it "HOT RODS" are in fact the fore fathers of  today's custom car scene. Be it from Japan or America, Hot rodders have laid the ground work for what we have accomplished today. From the creation of the auto mobile till now  people have been compelled to refine and improve the quality and speed of their vehicles. It is in fact that if not for these individuals who pursued this endeavor we would not be were we are today. A true car enthusiast should appreciate and respect the advancements these "HOT RODDERS" have made.

This past week i had the chance to attend the Prolong twilight cruise and meet at the NHRA museum in Pomona California. Yes, most the attendees are retired and in their senior years but the love they show for their seen is hard to rival. For a monthly meet the turnout is amazing. From classic rebuilds, wild customs and rat rods they had it all.

God bless America

CLASSIC DATSUN RACING. BILL PRITCHARD'S RACE READY 1970 DATSUN 510 B SEDAN. HSR WEST. FONTANA CA. Classic Datsun Racing. datsun 510

What up y'all? Just wanted to hit you with this classic race car I spotted the other weekend at the Historic Sports Car racing west. I had a chance to speak with the owner Bill Pritchard about his authentic and truly historic race ready Datsun 510. Right from the start I could tell that Mr. Pritchard was an educated and experienced racer. His approach to racing is truly a grass roots style. Without company sponsorship it's hard to travel, maintain, and improve a race car. With the Datsun 510 Bill gets an exciting and fun vehicle to race. Not only is it a joy to drive but the Datsun 510 is a super reliable build. The n/a setup may not be the fastest car on the track but it's most likely the most reliable setup. Racing in general is very expensive and fuel is not getting any cheaper. The four cylinder offers a more affordable option for road coarse racing. The following picture gives a little more insight to the history of Bill Prithchard and his 1970 Datsun 510 b sedan. Enjoy and be sure to subscribe and follow this blog. Thanks and God bless. Have a great week! Phillip...

L-18 1800cc motor built by Machine Tech, Oceanside ca. Twin mikuni 44mm side draft carb setup. This thing is like 12:1 compression or more. Clean engine bay. Looked really nice.

Fuel safe fuel cell. Double fuel pump, single filter. This little datsun sounded great. Purpose built for sure!

This Datsun 510 looked like it was a lot of fun to drive. Classics are always so much fun to watch racing. This thing sounded great. Way to go Bill. Be sure to show my blog some support by following and subscribing. Thanks guys! Till next time. Phillip...
